Research on the development and the application of single-particle light scattering particle size spectrometer

Abstract
This paper presents the working principle, equipment architecture and experimental studies of the self-developed singleparticle light scattering particle size spectrometer. Laboratory test results show that the spectrometer can effectively distinguish typical aerosol particles such as A1 dust, cigarette dust, and mixed dust. The three pollutants exhibit significantly different particle size distribution patterns. Outdoor co-location tests for accuracy and parallelism show that the PM2. 5 mass concentration from the spectrometer achieved an average correlation coefficient of 0. 959 with data from standard monitoring stations. The spectrometer was further applied to analyze the particle size distribution in Beijing during the 2026 Spring Festival, effectively identifying the differences in particle size distribution between particles originating from fireworks and those from dust weather events, indicating the practical application value of the single particle light scattering particle size spectrometer in the field of particle size monitoring.
